What Sandals To Choose
The official shoe of the summer season is a good pair of sandals. Let those toes out for some fresh air and enjoy the warm temps with a new pair that is just perfect for you. There are a lot of brands, various styles and different materials out there, and they each seem to fit and work in their own way. We break down the best way to find the perfect pair for you.
Are you looking for quick fix sandals?
If you just blew out your current pair and just need something inexpensive, look for basic rubber sandals. These might not be the most comfortable option but they will get the job done.
Do you want long-lasting sandals?
If so, we highly recommend full leather. Leather will take a little breaking in but once they mold to the shape of your foot they will be highly comfortable and very durable. A good pair of leather sandals should be lasting you at least 2 summers.
Do you prefer comfortable-out-of-the-box sandals?
If you are looking for comfortable, cushy sandals that don't require much break in, look for materials like synthetic leather or EVA foam. We also recommend something with a thicker strap. The thinner straps can rub the top of the foot more where a thicker strap may stay in place better for less friction.
How do I find the right size?
Generally speaking, sandals only come in whole sizes so if you usually wear your shoes in a half size, it's best to try on each size above and below that size so you make sure you get the right fit. If you go up a half size, make sure you don't have too much extra material behind your heel or in front of your toes when you walk. If you have a half size down, make sure your foot is fully supported from toe to heel. Also keep in mind some brands, like Rainbow Sandals, uses a S, M, L size range so be sure to check the specific brands size chart before making your purchase.
Will you be using these sandals around water?
If you plan to hit the beach regularly keep in mind that leather can be slippery when wet. Look for sandals that have a rubber sole and possibly even a perforated footbed for drainage or a quilted looking footbed for extra grip in wet conditions.
Don't like the feeling of anything between your toes?
No problem, choose a "slide" style sandal that just have one large strap that goes over your toes. These are highly comfortable and very easy to get on and off.
a brief history Rainbow
Rainbow Sandals was established in 1974 by Jay 'Sparky' Longley in Laguna Beach, CA. Longley got the idea to start making sandals when he would see broken sandals littering the beach. He decided why not make a superior sandal that would last a long time, as well as be comfortable.
Longley first starting producing the sandals in his home before relocating to San Clemente, CA in 1975. Rainbow Sandals were originally only sold in California before popular demand has now made it world wide company, selling high quality leather, hemp and rubber sandals. They have also branched into producing a casual footwear line.
Rainbow sandals is active in the beach lifestyle and sponsors multiple events, including the stand up paddle (SUP) annual event, "Battle of the Paddle", held in Hawaii and Southern California.
