How To Buy Snowboard Gloves
Choosing the right pair of gloves or mittens will help your day on the snow be more fun and rewarding. Cold and wet hands can quickly ruin the mood and that's not fun for anyone. Here are some things to think about when you are searching for your next pair of gloves or mitts.
Gloves vs. mitts?
Ah the age old battle of gloves versus mitts. It mostly comes down to personal preference but many will tell that you that mitts are proven to be warmer. Since all your fingers are together inside a mitten, you generate more body heat. So, if you tend to run cold, opt for mittens. Gloves will win in the mobility challenge. If you feel like you are more comfortable having a little more movement with your fingers, gloves are the right choice.
Why Gore Tex?
The only gloves or mitts that can claim to actually be waterproof are those with the Gore Tex stamp of approval. Your hands are going to get wet at some point in the day and the only way to stay absolutely dry is with a Gore Tex product. If there is one piece of your outerwear that you should spring for Gore Tex, it's your gloves.
Leather gloves and mitts are a great investment and the most durable. They generally hold a higher price tag but by nature offer a ton of insulation, durability and water resistancy. Why do you think your Grandfather's winter driving gloves are always leather? Cause he's a smart guy.
Insulated vs. liner gloves?
For colder days, insulated gloves or mitts are the way to go. Many brands have combo glove (or mitten) packages that will come with both a liner glove and insulated glove you can double up on frigid days. For spring temps, look for a simple liner glove or pipe glove.
